No gold Mine...

Well, the gold mine did not pan out so when I get over my “not wanting to share my total stupidity” I will tell you all what was a gold mine in my eyes, but not in others.

We did have good weather and time this weekend to try and burn some. It was slow moving. Every morning we had frost. So we then would wait till afternoon, let’s just say we did not get everything burnt that we wanted to.  In the pictures it looks promising, but trust me they are deceiving.

When we were not burning, we were pulling trees. After our visit with the DNR, we found out something’s we can do to improve our woods.  We also found out that the woods near the house wasn’t  as healthy as the ones out back. I will say, I learned a lot about trees. Excited to see it grow into a healthier woods for us and the wildlife.

Can you believe it is Dec. 23rd today? It just doesn’t seem like it. Our Christmas’s are not the same with the girls not being around for the holidays. My poor son and daughter in law, they get the whole experience. I bet they wished they lived further away at times. I have had time this weekend while sitting in this thing my son and husband call a posi-track. I call it a skid loader. I have been corrected. If I keep it up, they may just give in to my thinking. (One can hope)  But I was thinking how blessed we are. Not only this time of year but all year long. We are blessed with many things. This weekend, our son, daughter in law, my parents, the farmer and friends from the Omro area joined us in working on the farm. We can not thank them enough. Even tho we were unable to get all the burning done, we had a great time. Thanks for the help friends and family.
Most of all a big THANK YOU to all of you who continue to support us and follow these ramblings. Until next time my friends.
Merry Christmas

The Stockings Were Hung By The Chimney With Care...

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, but in our little Farm house, it is more like....
The tree was placed and decorated, while the bear was unpacked and inflated. .
I LOVE this time of year.  I love to decorate, decorate and decorate some more. I was very excited to think I now have two places to decorate. Now to talk the hubby into this thought. Honestly, it didn’t take much. It was a simple task which took 15 minutes.(decorating and inflating that is)
We have a tree up and a new resident living at the farm. We will call him Bear.. Bear came to us a few years ago at a party we were attending and asked us for a place to stay. At the time we really didn’t have a nice place to house him, so he lived in our basement comfortably for a few years. When he heard we had a farm, well it only made sense to allow him to take up residency. He is a night bear, so he plans on sleeping during the day and staying up most of the night. ( I could continue but I won’t)
Tomorrow we have the DNR coming out to the farm to give us advice on forestry management. We are looking forward to this. We have so many questions and can’t wait for some answers. We really want to get the woods healthy for now and in the future. We are also planning on planting our own evergreens for future cutting. We also think we might have found a little gold mine on the property, but won’t know until we can ask someone. If so, we will share pictures and plans. Fingers crossed.
With the weather being what it is this weekend, we may be able to get some burning done. We want to burn off the fields starting with the field to the south of the house. We are hoping for a sledding party this winter and this is the field for it, but we NEED snow.  Sorry, this girl is hoping for snow, snow and more snow. Yes you will all be invited for a fun time sledding.

It is always fun to go out to the farm in the evening.  The wildlife is spectacular.(from a distance that is) Tonight we saw a handful of dear and the howling of coyotes or???? (Love that question mark) Can’t wait for summer and to have those campfires and enjoy the view from the hill.
May you all have a Very Merry Christmas and a very blessed New Year.

Encouraging Words?

For the most part that heading is correct. Encouraging Words?

We have been sharing our excitement with most everyone who asks. (Well, to be honest, even those who don’t ask), and for the most part we receive encouraging words. BUT.... here comes the Question mark.  We have had some surprises. People who we thought would be very encouraging and supportive have surprised us with that question mark. People who we thought would think we were nuts, (they probably still think we are nuts), but they at least had very encouraging words for us. ( to our face at least) I say this all in good, silliness.  To be fair we have received a tremendous amount of good support and shared excitement but I do need to address the question mark.

So for my question mark friends and family.  YES we are nuts!! Let’s put that rumor to rest right away. It is hard for me to answer that question mark because I myself have the same question mark in my everyday life.  I just know that it is ok to question, in fact it is very OK to question. Just think what a boring life we would have if we never met that little curved line with a dot below it. We only get one go around at this life and I have been very fortunate to have a husband who continually jumps on this crazy Train with both feet to hold my hand.  Yes, we maybe a little crazy, but I LOVE THIS CRAZY.

I love reminding my husband of a conversation we had after our girls were gone to college and our son was graduating from high school and moving out. Ernie,”Are you worried that we can do this ? Marriage? Life without the kids around? Our friends were their  friends, we were go, go , go for years and years. Will we even be able to get along with just us?”  What will we even do?”   HAHAHAHAHA  REALLY???? Me, “ I don’t know Ernie, I guess we will have to see”   And fast forward 8 years.. We are more in love today than ever and to be fair, more in debt than ever before..  But here’s to the  adventures we have had and will forever have.  Yes Ernie, we are making it. We are very lucky to enjoy our time and life together. So why not buy a farm (question mark)

I LOVE and welcome all the question marks, but i love that ^ one the most..

Oh The Places You Will Go... Dr. Suess

Oh the places we WILL go and never thought we would or could.

Ernie has been busy with inspecting the house and other buildings on the property. We are finding some really neat items. To some, I am sure they are not that special, but to us they are very special. It is still hard for me to fully go through everything. It just doesn’t seem like it is ours. I mean the personal items that were left behind. The prior owner was very religious and left behind some beautiful Rosary’s, old photos some of which are documents written in either german or polish. I have to say I am excited to get those out of the house and cleaned up to see what they are. I am guessing birth certificates and marriage documents. I Have been doing some history research on this place and so far not having much luck. I will continue to look as we know that there are wonderful stories and a very rich history to be told and heard.

The new locks were installed and camera’s. Next will be me in the house working room by room. So many things I am excited for. Example: Flooring, we see some hardwood flooring in the downstairs bedroom. Hoping when pulling up carpet and linoleum we will find more. Yes, that excites me. I am amazed that this cute little farm house is in such good shape. Someone had done some remodeling not so long ago which will make it easier for us. I can’t wait to get photo’s on here for all of you who are asking to see. Patience my friends. All great things take time. ( so I keep telling myself).

We are hoping to burn some of the fields to help with the farming that will be happening next planting season. We also hope to have nice weather and a lot of snow to have a sledding party. Because we have such amazing friends, we continue to get the most wonderful ideas for events, parties, and well way more than I can sit and type today. All I know is this will be a place for wonderful memories to be made and to be shared with family, friends and strangers alike.

Here is the stove that was bought and in the process of making it’s way into our little farm house.
